Situated just across from Buckingham Palace, the Rubens at the Palace is a true four star hotel with lots of amenities.
Built in 1911 to host debutante balls, the building was transformed in 1997 as a true luxury hotel as part of the Red Carnation collection of hotels.
The luxury hotel is only a short walk from The Mall, Green Park and St. James Park.
The hotel includes 151 deluxe guest rooms, in addition to 13 luxury suites and 8 royal rooms, each decorated tastefully.
Within your room there is flat screen television which gives you access to all the hotel services and amenities in multiple languages. Each suite is appointed with telephone with direct dial, voicemail, modem and fax access, wireless Internet, television with satellite channels, radio/CD/DVD with alarm, hairdryer, in-room safe, personally controlled air/heat, hospitality tray, a fully stocked minibar, magazines and fresh flowers. Our guest room had a capitol theme, with interesting patterns on the bed cover, wallpaper, and heavy drapes (for privacy and if wanting to sleep late).
Rooms include a desk, reading table and extra chair for relaxing after a long day of travel, sightseeing or business.
Our room included a large bathroom, with shower, bathtub, bidet, heated towels, with bath condiments complete with luxury bathrobe (available for purchase) and your own house slippers.
The hotel is located only 3 minutes from Victoria Station.
Relax over drinks or lunch in the Palace Lounge or Cavalry Bar, with views of the Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace. Breakfast at the Old Masters Restaurant is not to be missed on your visit to London, with options for either a Continental or a full English breakfast (which includes fresh dishes from the buffet). Served from 7 am till 10 am, our English breakfast included black pudding (an English favorite of liver and sausage), bubble and squeak (another English favorite consisting of potatoes, cabbage and other vegetables), eggs served up as we like them, two varieties of bacon, Cumberland sausage, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns, baked beans, juice and coffee. Lunch and dinner is also served daily. In the evenings, the Library Restaurant (awarded a 2 AA Rosette) provides a regal setting with quality selections served up by master chef Giovanni Finco starting at 7:30 pm.
Suites are available for special events such as weddings, conferences and banquets, and a fully equipped gym is available near the hotel.
Rates range from $370 to $939 (£195 to £495 GBP) a night for a guest room, depending on size of room and the season (rates are subject to change without notice).
We would like to thank the Rubens for assisting with our feature.
Getting There:
From Victoria train and tube station:
From the Victoria tube station it is a short 3 minute walk. When departing the Victoria station at Terminus Place, go left. Then turn right on Buckingham Palace Road and walk about 100 metres (about the length of a football field) to the hotel.
Although a short walk, if you have a lot of luggage, suggest taking a taxi from the station (cost around £5).
